DECEMBER 11

"International Day of Tango"

The "National Day of Tango" is celebrated in Argentina on the 11th of December and it has become the "International day of Tango" throughout the world.

Ben Molar, who is a titular member of the Lunfardo National Academy and of the Tango National Academy, and has just been designated as Buenos Aires Illustrious Citizen, is the responsible for Tango having its celebrating day. The desire of fulfilling this dream led him to participate in long negotiations with government executives, until he finally saw his dream come true, when National Tango Day was institutionalized on December 11th. It was also because of his initiative that Carlos Gardel has its monument in the Abasto neighborhood since December 2000.

This date was selected in relation to the combined birthday anniversary of two great tango artists: Carlos Gardel  and Julio De Caro .

Carlos Gardel (1890 - 1935) requires no presentation. He was, and still is in many aspects, one of the most admired tango singer of all time.

Julio De Caro (1899 - 1980) is a tango composer whose originality of vision paved the way to a number of other tango composers who flourished during the glorious period of the 1940s.

A close & warm embrace to all tango lovers around the world from
